CJS 2014 - Journal Cover (art journal)

Hello!

Today I am uploading a picture of this journal cover I just finished.  I took advantage of a video tutorial from Creative Jump Start 2014.  The label is created using the Joint Compound idea from Dina Wakely ... that was a ton of fun!!  And I used joint compound on the whole book cover, then stamped it with a harlequin image.  Then I went to town with my Twinkling H2Os by Luminarte and a few acrylic paints.  The H2Os give it a great sparkle in real life that do not show up in this picture.

Twinkling H2Os are one of my favourite products!   And there is a give away ... so I am totally crossing my fingers!!!

I used some grungeboard "hinges" (Ranger) that I painted dark brown and then covered with some rock candy crackle paint (Ranger).  The clock face and key hole images are from smARTworks (who I see are now closed).  You might also note a neat little addition ... snaps ... the ones you use to keep skirts closed.

Well, off to play more in my art journal!

Favourite Art Project (art journal page)

Hello!

There is so much going on at Creative Jump Start 2014 (CJS) that it is hard to keep up!

Today I am posting some pictures of my favourite art project of 2013.  It is an art journal page I made.  It uses a few favourite things, first, my stamps.  I started out with stamps and I love them so I try to use them as often as I can in my art journaling.  Some products that are also on this page is moulding paste (you can see that on this page I stamped my stamp into some moulding paste!) and varnish (which I used to stamp the same image using the varnish ... which acted like a resist as more layers went on).

Here is a close up of the stamp pushed into the moulding paste.

And here is a close up where you can see the varnish resist image .. at the bottom left and a bit in the middle right.  It has the orange colour coming through which resisted the darker blues placed over top.

One of my all time favourite pages using some of my favourite tools and products!  So much fun.
Okay, off to make another page.

Creative Jump Start 2014 - Fly Away (Art Journal Page)

Hello.

Here is another page I made using a Creative Jump Start 2014 video for inspiration.  This time, Julie Fei-Fan Balzer was encouraging us to use household items with gelli prints.  Well, I don't have a gelli plate nor the typical deli paper ... but I improvised.  The resulting paper I used to cut out these feathers and added them to a background.

The background was made with Gelatos (Faber Castell), acrylic paints, rub-ons (Basic Grey), and spray (home-made).

Tons of texture on those feathers because the paint I used to "gelli print" started to come off (had to put gel medium all over the top to keep the paint from flaking off) my faux deli paper!  LOL!  and then when I adhered it to the page with my Golden Gel Medium, it went all bumpy .. but I love the results!  Items found around my house used to create the "faux gelli print" included a paper tube, plastic fork, and a meat tenderizer rolling pin.  I also did some stamping on the "faux gelli print" with the paper tube and a text stamp.

Having fun with CJS 2014 and it is definitely feeding my creative juices!

Creative Jump Start 2014 - Fly (Art Journal Page)

HI!  I have signed up for Creative Jump Start 2014.  So far it has been lots of fun and very inspiring!
The overall theme is using household objects in your art.  What fun!

In one of Natalie's first video's she encouraged us to use a very interesting household object to create cool texture ... like I did here!  Curious .. sign up for the course and find out what made this awesome design.

When making it, I used Liquitex Gesso spread over the entire page, then used the household object to create partial circles of awesome texture!

Added home-made sprays and Gelatos for colour.  Then collaged a bit with some bits and pieces in my stash.  I really like how the bird turned out ... it is cut from grungeboard (Ranger) then painted with more Liquitex Gesso, then  stamped using more of the turquoise home-made spray.  The brad was rusted (followed France's technique) and then some white spray added to it and more of my turquoise home-made spray to look like patina.

So much fun.  I have so much more to share. Stay tuned!

All is Calm (Journal Page)

Hi!

Mixed Media Place has a challenge running where they want us to use the emotion "calm" and create with it.  The first thing I thought of is sitting in my living room early in the morning with all of the Christmas lights glowing softly.  It is so calm and soothing.

So, here is the page that came from that feeling. Painted the background.  Stamped woodgrain image using darker paint.  Added wood panels (walls) with a home-made stencil and coloured modeling paste.  added more dark colours to the bottom corner then painted my tree branches.  Added "light bulbs" to the branches with their soft glow.

Here is a close up of the glittery lights.

I added some journaling with a white gel pen to the bottom right page after taking the photos.

Off to create another page.
